Contact Energy had resource consent to build a wind farm in the Puketoi Range, near Dannevirke in Southern Hawke’s Bay.

Contact's initial resource consent application was declined in April 2009. Contact amended its proposal in light of the decision and appealed the decision to the Environment Court. Following a hearing, the Environment Court granted consent in November 2010. The resource consent lapsed in 2016.

The wind farm could have had up to 58 wind turbines, with a maximum generating capacity of 156MW.
