Electricity Sector Environment Group Submission

A joint submission was recently prepared by New Zealand’s principal electricity generators, collectively referred to as the Electricity Sector Environment Group (ESEG), to the Exposure Draft of the Natural and Built Environments Bill (the Bill).

The ESEG seeks to ensure that the Natural and Built Environments Act (NBEA) provides more robust ways to enable better development within biophysical and natural limits, social infrastructure, be better equipped for the onset of climate change and other natural hazards and effective ways to mitigate emissions that also contribute to climate change, as well as overall better efficiency, effectiveness and a reduction in complexity while not losing sight of the need for democratic input. It also hopes to renew focus on the opportunity we have in our hands to make real efforts to reform and decarbonise NZ and the economy.
