PNCC district plan changes

In 2015 when the PNCC proposed district plan changes that would disadvantage existing and proposed wind farms in the region NZWEA along with wind farm owners lodged submissions requesting a number of material changes.

NZWEA’s submission related to the proposed 700m setback from the wind farm boundary and recommended adopting NZS6808:2010 as the basis for managing noise effects. The Association’s issue was that the PNCC proposed introduction of a physical set back was not scientifically based.  If adopted the setback could potentially make re-powering existing wind farms difficult and, if adopted by other councils, could restrict the development of future wind farms.

Following an Environment Court appeal process an agreement was reached. More details on the issues and resolution are here.
