Ventus Energy has received consent to build a 17 turbine wind farm 10 kilometres south of Taharoa in the Waitomo District. Turbines could have a tip height of up to 110m.

Six turbines are proposed with a maximum tip height of 121m.  The power output of the turbines will be 1.5MW, giving a total power rating of 9MW.
