A significant step forward for offshore wind in Aotearoa New Zealand.
NZWEA welcomes the announcement of New Zealand’s first offshore renewable energy feasibility permit application round.
Applications open on 19 October 2026 and close on 19 April 2027.
This marks an important milestone towards exploring how offshore wind could contribute to New Zealand’s future energy needs.
For our sector, it is an opportunity to build momentum, strengthen collaboration and assess the potential for new renewable generation, investment and regional development.
We look forward to seeing this next phase progress, with strong engagement between developers, iwi, communities and other marine users.
