NZWEA CEO Attends Electrify Queenstown

NZWEA’s CE was pleased to attend Electrify Queenstown this week. The vibe and excitement at this year’s event was infectious along with the drive (EV) to electrify our homes, businesses and industries. Key takeaways include:

  1. New Zealand Made Energy – Aotearoa New Zealand has the real opportunity to be a global leader in electrifying our economy with renewable energy to achieve full energy independence and energy security.
  2. Electrification of Fossil Fuelled Machines – The technology is already commercially and economically available to electrify 84% (or 8.5 million) of our fossil fuel machines operating in Aotearoa.
  3. National Energy Strategy – A national energy policy is desperately needed so that investors, developers and market participants gain confidence in the directions and energy policies from government. The show of hands in the above photo indicate which politicians were supportive of producing a national energy strategy.

With well over 1GW of wind energy projects being investigated and/or developed in Southland alone, the wind energy sector is ready and willing to support Aotearoa NZ’s electrification journey. The opportunities are significant and the benefits for all New Zealander’s are huge.

A massive shout out to Destination Queenstown and Rewiring Aotearoa for putting on this excellent event. Your electrification leadership is outstanding.
