Tararua District has some of the most consistent wind flows in New Zealand and has had a number of consented and proposed wind farms, along with the largest number of wind turbines already built for over more than a decade.
The District's low population and often poor land use classification (classes 6, 7, and 8) of hill country lads, make it an attractive proposition to land owners to consider negotiating lease arrangements with generators. There remains a large untapped potential in the Puketoi mountain range for wind generation.
