Mercury NZ Ltd

https://www.mercury.co.nz/
Mercury generates 100% homegrown renewable energy through hydro, geothermal and wind power. Our 222MW wind farm at Turitea in the Manawatu is under construction, and we have acquired wind farms at Tararua (163MW), Mahinerangi (36MW) and Waipipi (133MW). We have a strong pipeline of wind generation sites. All this contributes to Mercury’s mission of energy freedom for New Zealand and New Zealanders.

Mercury is an electricity generator and retailer. Our purpose is to inspire New Zealanders to enjoy energy in more wonderful ways. Hydro and geothermal power stations operated by Mercury generate renewable energy sufficient for 850,000 New Zealand homes.

Our customers

Mercury sells electricity to New Zealand customers through the Mercury brand and other retail brands GLOBUG and Bosco. Our purpose is to inspire New Zealanders to enjoy energy in more wonderful ways.

We pursue our mission of Energy Freedom in many ways, including through the electrification of transport. In 2014 Mercury identified the electrification of transport as New Zealand’s greatest opportunity for reducing carbon emissions. We encourage the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and electric bikes (e.bikes) and partnering on non-home charging infrastructure and data.

Our 100% renewable generation

At Mercury we have a genuine focus on the long term and a long heritage in renewable electricity generation. Our commitment to renewable energy is something we are pretty proud of. It's good for New Zealand and it’s great for our customers to know that we contribute towards a healthier, more sustainable environment.

100% of our generation comes from renewable sources. We operate the nine power stations on the Waikato Hydro System, and five geothermal stations in the Taupo Volcanic Zone. In 2020 we'll be adding wind from New Zealand’s largest wind farm, being built at Turitea near Palmerston North. We also champion solar technology advancement with expertise in battery and off-grid solutions. Research and development is also something we do: Mercury is pioneering a scalable, national grid-connected Tesla battery at our R+D centre in Auckland.

In 2019 we expanded our renewables reach through the acquisition of a 19.99% stake in Tilt Renewables (Tilt) which has a growing portfolio of wind and solar projects in Australasia.

Our people

At Mercury we use our teams’ collective brain power to make things easy for our customers and more efficient for our organisation. We are building and supporting a culture of high performance teams: diverse groups of individuals who all have opinions and different thinking styles, and who are supported to give their best to achieve great results.

We support our people to be high performers through a commitment to wellbeing, inclusion and development.

We are based in Auckland, and near our generation in the Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Manawatū.
