The Te Apiti wind farm was opened by the Prime Minister, Helen Clark, on 9 December 2004 and at that time it was the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere. It consists of 55 Vestas 1.65 MW turbines and hence has a total installed capacity of 90MW. It provides power for about 45,000 average Kiwi households.
