Description: The foundation of the MainPower Group's business is its electricity distribution business spanning the North Canterbury and Kaikoura region. We are proud to have been operating in the region since the 1920's. A core feature of MainPower's activities is our link with the region and local communities to which we distribute electricity. Those consumers are also our owners, and benefit from reduced line charges through monthly rebates. In recent years MainPower has chosen to widen its strategic focus on the traditional regional electricity distribution business. The strategic development has the same foundations in mind - electricity, the region and infrastructure. The company's slogan points to this, particularly as regards the North Canterbury and Kaikoura region. Tangible results of our recent development efforts are a generation strategy for the region that has identified several promising renewable generation opportunities, the installation of distributed generation demonstration applications for the direct benefit of community organisations, and the extension of our power systems contracting operation into the Nelson/Marlborough region through its acquisition of Electro Services.
