Description: Powerco is New Zealand's second largest electricity lines company and largest gas distributor, with 400,000 customer connections in the North Island. Powerco has major wind farm projects connected to its networks, such as the Hau Nui wind farm in Southern Wairarapa and Tararua in Manawatu. Powerco recognises the important role of wind energy in New Zealand's current and future energy mix and is keen to support the development of the industry. Powerco will continue to support wind energy through ensuring its networks can accommodate new wind projects and through connecting future windfarm projects on mutually beneficial commercial terms. Powerco is keen to work with the wider industry and Government bodies to establish industry protocols and break down barriers to promote future development and the efficient location of windfarms within its electricity networks.
